Well I had both a Cooey 64B (same as the Savage 64) and a Ruger 10/22. I had way more problems with the Cooey not feeding than I ever did with the Ruger. The little knob on the Cooey bolt was a pain to pull back, and the "push the knob in" safety was retarded. It was accurate, but I spent a lot of time fiddling with it to feed. My Ruger has been pretty good. Everyone talks about the mods that you can do to them, some say they are good and some say they are bad. The point is you can if you want, but you don't have to. I put in a new hammer and a bolt buffer that ran me about $30 and made a big difference. Through a basement flood I ended up getting a new stock from insurance and I got a Boyd's Ross Thumbhole. I've been very impressed with the accuracy of the gun (for a semi) and it functions fine. Yeah, everyone has a 10/22, but it seems like everyone has a Remington 700 or a Winchester 70 too. The good thing is you can make it your own or you can shoot it as is. Out of the box it will shoot as well as the Savage, but if you want to make it shoot better you can. There is no way to make your Savage shoot better then it does when you buy it because there are no accessories out there for it.
