Savage 6A info

Through CGNs EE I've purchased two bolt action .22s since Christmas. Figured it was time for a semi-auto so was looking for a Cooey but got offered a Savage 6A. Can any of you more knowlegeable members give me any feedback on the Savage and an approximate value range?

Made 1938-68. pre war had a checkered pistol grip. and sorry but the price is under $100.

I like the old Savage/Stevens .22 autos better than the Cooey 64. I never cared for the crappy pot metal (or plastic) mags that Cooey used, and also dislike the fact that you have to pull the barrel off to remove the bolt when cleaning them.

One word of warning about the tube fed .22 Savage/Stevens rifles: They have a feed mechanism that can be damaged if a ham-handed person tries to clear a jam improperly. Once that mechanism has been bent it is supposed to be a real bugger to get it back in proper order. However, if they the gun has not been abused they are reliable and quite accurate.

I forgot to mention values: most of these rifles seem to sell for $75 to $120 depending on condition. Great value!
