Hello all, got a brand new savage 93 17hmr bolt action. Out of 30 shots it has had 20 misfires. I have tried different ammo, adjusting the trigger (accutrigger), the dealer says to check "headspins" but not sure what they are referring to. Any one else run into something similar to this? Thanks

had the same problem, same gun, tried a bolt form a .22 and it worked great so I knew it was the bolt. took my bolt apart, stretched the spring a little bit, filed the end of the firing pin to a slightly smaller size(more force smaller spot) had no misfires last time i went out. I would have warrantied it, but I wasn't the first owner and didn't have receipt.

Yep, as HTH says...different ammo. Winchester HMR never worked well in my Savages or CZ. Owned a Savage 93 in 22WMR and it wouldn't shoot Winchester either. 2"+ group @ 100 yards...if the round even fired. 2/5 didn't.

Winchester ammo is one thing, was never good to me...but 20 out of 30 sounds excessive

did you clean the bolt thoroughly, possibly brand new rifle shipped with excess grease?

my savage had fail to fire issues after about 1200-1300 rounds, was getting light strikes...cleaning with some brake fluid and few blasts with the air compressor fixed things quickly, no issues since

This isn't my thread, but the failures I had were with a perfectly clean gun/bolt face. CCI, Hornady, Remington all shot fine...Winchester constant issues.

Same with the savage I had. Wasn't uncommon to have to try shoot the same round 4-5 times to get it to go off if it even did. Out of the 100 rounds I shot probably 10-15 split cases her box and almost every round had to recock and try shoot again

Didn't even bother with it in my cz. Didn't want to shoot that junk in it.

but still had one fail? how does that rim look on the fail compared to the successful fires?

I'd try cleaning the bolt thoroughly...cci, hornady and federal all shoot 100% in my rifles, the only time being when the firing pin was severely gunked up and has been 100% since then
