savage 93r17 heavy barrel. scopes?

i just picked up an older savage 93r17 with a heavy barrel. i put a 6-24x 42 tasco scope on it. i sighted it in on the weekend and i love it. i just have a question is it to much scope for the gun. i would like to be able to reach the maximum the gun will give. and what kinda groups can i expect to get out of it? thanks

I was looking at a new one today at Bass Pro and the guy was telling me he bought one and was hitting gophers at 300 yards with his.
I think you'll be fine.

I hit gophers reiably @ 175 yrds with mine..... I have a 6-24x 40 NcStar on mine, I just got it this winter so I cannot say how reliable this scope is. Before I was using a 4-9x40 Bushnell, and that is the one that I shot for the 2 summers previous to this one. I got the new one as I was able to get into an adjustable objective view scope for under $200....... The only bargain I found at the local g-show this year.
