Hi Folks,
I just had a look at one of these recently, and it seems to be just right for me.
This is Savage's answer to the lightweight, synthetic stocked, blued .17 HMR rifle. It comes with a "clean" barrel and factory mounted Weaver scope bases and Savage's new "Accutrigger".
I owned a Marlin 25MN with it's standard weight barrel awhile back in .22WMR and it was remarkably accurate, cutting regular ragged holes at 50 yards with Winchester 40JHP's. Then, I bought a Savage 93FVSS w/ heavy barrel in .22 WMR and it was also a very good shooter, but certainly no more accurate than the Marlin was.
It seems to me then, from the results of my unscientific experience, that perhaps a standard weight barrel is all I may need for a good shooter in .17HMR. They certainly are more comfortable to carry.
Your thoughts, esteemed shooting brethren...?
Jeff/1911.
