Savage 99 .308 question

I'm wondering what the production dates and volumes are for the Savage 99 in .308 with the safety on the lever (pre tang safety)
I'm looking at buying one, but it's not in great condition and I'm wondering if they are common enough to just wait for another one to pop up for sale.
 
I am not an expert on the 99 but lever safties and 308's are not that common in my opinion,
most of the 308's I see are top tang or clip fed models.

What model is it? I have a 99e with the lever safety that I bought for 350.00 with a 4x Redfield on it. It has an excellent stock repair from when a horse rolled on it in the scabbard. I think I got a deal even with the repair and scabbard wear. Other than those two things the rifle has hardly been fired and is in great shape.

If the price is right and it's in good condition buy it. Although they are common IMO the nicer ones are getting harder to find.
 
If it's "not in great condition" it is probably worth about $300 to maybe $400. Depends what that description means. I owned one that was in excellent condition and sold it for $650 a few years ago.
 
I think you're probably looking at $430-$475 for later models these days. I was looking at them, and even the E models in 308 command $450 on average.
 
308 savage 99e are still hard to find lots of 300's,303's the 308 is best likely looking at 600 for a good one others are good for parts
