I have glass bedded M-99 barrels at the fore end screw location. This makes a fore end glass washer. One layer of masking tape around the barrel at the fore end tip and a heavy elastic band to hold the fore end on located at the tip of the fore end. This gives a subtle free floated barrel.
Takes away point of impact changes when you tighten the fore end screw too much or too little.
I have several Savage 99 rifles, most shoot 1.5" or better with a good scope.
