Savage 99 ammunition

Hey all, so quick question i just received a savage 99 (.30-30) and i was wondering if i can put any .30-30 ammunition in it. I know that savage has stopped making their .30-30 rounds but that Remington and Winchester still make them, can i put a Remington or Winchester .30-30 round into my savage.

I'm aware this is probably a stupid question and that it is probably fine, but better safe than sorry... or dead.

Any commercial .30-30 ammunition should be just fine in your Savage 99. It is a strong rifle and can handle safely any loading that has ever been offered.

Thing to watch for is if you run into a 99 Savage marked ".303 Savage". This is NOT the British .303, but a special Savage cartridge very similar to a .30-30, but with a slightly fatter casing. You can run into a bit of trouble there, depending upon ammo and the condition of the rifle.

But NO problems with .30-30.

One other question, there is a (sp) after the .30-30 engraving on the barel what dose that mean?

No it is not - everybody has to start learning somewhere. Always ask questions if you are uncertain - the vast majority of us are glad to help.
 
just remember if you ask stupid questions and someone yells at your for asking them, they are a sad lonely person in their mommy's basement that shoots bad guys on their computer and gets their jolleys from badmouthing "noobs" on the internet.
