I've got a 99 Savage in 250 - 3000 and would like to re-barrel it to
358 Win.....does anyone know what I'd require for parts aside from a new carrier for the 358 cartridge and of course a barrel in that chambering ?
Bolt face should be ok as is.
Does anyone know of a gunsmith who could do this for me ?
Any advice / help greatly appreciated .

Cheers....

You would probably be better off starting with a .308. If it is an older 250-3000 the receiver will not be long enough to accomodate the winchester round. The action was lengthened in 1955 to accomodate the .243, .308 and .358 wins. See pm.

44Bore

Not to mention the fact that the old 250-3000's had a very lightweight tapered barrel and couldn't be bored out to the 358 chambering without blowing a hole through the sides of it.

The 358 rotor alone would be a sweet find.

Have a 358 and 300 rotor, both appear to be same overall length and similar dimensions to the rotor inside the gun, but I have to take it to a knowledgeable ' smith to see if the change is possible or even practical .
Cheers...

Kevan,

44Bore is correct. The 250-3000 receiver is not long enough for the 358, UNLESS you have the more recent model made in the 1070s.

You really would be better off to start with a 308 and go from there.
