Well I have been playing with this rifle of my grandfathers. It is a 1924 Savage 99 300 sav. I have been doing a little reading up on it as well. I am wondering where I could find a .410 barrel and a carrying case for it. What would be a reasonable price to pay for a 410 barrel?

Thanks Steve

I've only ever seen one on the EE, IIRC it was about $150 but required some fitting.
I know I'd gladly have paid a couple hundred for one to use on my 1899 Takedown. They are mighty hard to find!

Good luck.

A cased set is most likely one of the hardest Savage items to find and if you do actually trip over one it'll cost big dollars.

A 410 bbl though should be alot easier to find, just gotta dig. Alot of them are repro's but do the same job as the originals.

I had an original 1899 Takedown in .303 Sav given to me last Fall with a spare 410 barrel. It belonged to my wife's Great Grandfather. It's not for sale but you never know when these things will just land in your lap.

So true! About 1962 a friend saw me shooting my Savage M99 .22 Hi-Power and he said to me "when I was a kid (he was about 30 at the time) my Dad made me a wooden 'rifle' at the cottage to play with that looked just like that". The next time he went to the family's cottage (on island in Georgian Bay) he hunted through all the buildings and in the attic of the pump house he found a mint Savage M99 .22 Hi-Power wrapped up in oily cloths along with a complete set of reloading tools, including a bullet mold AND a mint Colt .32 semi-auto! Apparently his grandfather had bought the Savage back around 1912-15, his father had the Colt before WW II and at the onset of the war they had closed up the cottage and stored the firearms etc. The grandfather and father both passed away and the firearms were forgotten about.

I've never had anything like that happen to me - but there's always hope!

Of all the year renovating older building I was hopefull of finding a hidden gun in a wall when I tore it down, but no luck, though I found a few 22 rimfire magazines and ammo! All my first rifles my uncle salvaged out of a Township dump he work at, but nothing real great!
I think I might just have to make a 410 barrel for my Sav 1899 TD carbine, and use a Mossberge choke system on it, the only thing is I will have to make 2, one for me and one for my uncle who sent me on the quest 15 years ago for a 410 barrel for his Sav99 TD 300 sav.!
The only place I have seen barrels is in cased high end sets, never by them selves! Had an old fella come to get a recoil pad for a savage 99, ask what calibre, he said 410! I jumped out of my slumber, told him if you bring it in will install the pad for free so I could take measurements off his barrel. The old guy never new he had anything special, shot partridge since he was a kid, now 50 years later needed a new recoil pad! Like I always said you never know what is out there in someones closet? cheers to all you Savage 99 fans!

Me neither. All I ever found was an old Eatonia .22 that unfortunately had the bolt hidden somewhere else.
