I assume he has the 99C with detachable mag., there was one made in the twenties called the 99C with a rotary mag. Value in my area $300-$550 depending on condition. Produced from 1965 to 2001.
It would also depend, somewhat, on calibre. If it's the detachable mag model, I'm pretty sure that limits it to .243, .308 and .358. I have read that the .358 carries a bit of a premium.
I like the model. I've used them in .243 and .308. I think Mike Webb's price range is right.
Run the serial number on line at www.savage99.com and check out the date of manufacture. I have seen .308 Savage 99's from $350.00 to $750.00 Condition means a lot as well as if it is scoped or not. Sights help the cost as well as originality. How about posting some pics?
