I just a aquired a Savage 99f in 308. wow its nice to shoot. I would like to put a little 4x on it and was wondering what people have for rings and bases. I assume that it will need a taller set of mounts because of the way it feeds.

Also while I am thinking out loud what about a set of ghost rings??

I have a pre-mil serial number Savage 99F in .308 Win.

I have an older Leupold VariX-II 2-7x33mm on it in medium Burris Z rings on Weaver bases. Makes a nice, fairly low profile set-up for this slick handling rifle.

NAA.

I have 2 mod 99s one model F in 300 savage, williams bases and med rings and a model 99 C in 308 win with a Williams Foolproof model 99s peep sight. You can't stop with just one model 99.

My 99 has a one piece base and I've never had an issue with loading or extraction. The Burris I have on it doesn't have sufficient eye relief to accomodate my longer lenth of pull (14.5 inches) and the one piece front mount being so far forward.

Medium rings work fine in this rifle.

One piece base on a 99F

Here is my 99F with its one piece Leupold base and standard steel rings (1.5-6X Bushnell,30mm tube). I had set up by Wholesale in Winnipeg. No problems with ejection but the spool is a PITA to load now. Doable but not quick.

Leupold base is #4995 Give Leupold a call if you have questions.
