After mounting a scope on the 300 I took it out to try some reloads. 39 grains of H4895 under a 150 Hornady was very pleasant to shoot and very accurate. I tried some 150 grain Remington Core-Lokt bullets next and was amazed when the Core-Lokt's shot within an inch of the Hornady's at 100 yards.I then tried some 180 Hornady's with the same load and they shot 1 inch to the right of the other small cluster of rounds. I don't know the velocity but the accuracy of the Savage rifle has impressed me. The last round I had went into the bullseye on the target at 100 yards.
The 300 Savage has a 20 inch barrel with a 6 digit serial number, lever safety, brass rotary mag. Now I know why people who have these rifles like'em so much.......
