After mounting a scope on the 300 I took it out to try some reloads. 39 grains of H4895 under a 150 Hornady was very pleasant to shoot and very accurate. I tried some 150 grain Remington Core-Lokt bullets next and was amazed when the Core-Lokt's shot within an inch of the Hornady's at 100 yards.I then tried some 180 Hornady's with the same load and they shot 1 inch to the right of the other small cluster of rounds. I don't know the velocity but the accuracy of the Savage rifle has impressed me. The last round I had went into the bullseye on the target at 100 yards.
The 300 Savage has a 20 inch barrel with a 6 digit serial number, lever safety, brass rotary mag. Now I know why people who have these rifles like'em so much.......:D

Got the same rifle in .308 Win... haven't worked up any loads for her yet but ya just gotta love the sleek lines of a 99F....

Have an F in 300 Sav, it's the one 99 of mine that never misses deer season, shoots clover leafs at 100 all the time.

You only have one problem, either it was a typo or you measured wrong or the barrels been bobbed cause Savage never ever made a 99 with a 20" barrel in 300 Sav. The early T/D F's had a 24" barrel and the later featherweight F's solid frames had a 22" barrel.

Joe, the 99A series A had a 20" barrel in .300 for a few years. Of course, this is a later model.

Wow, thats twice this weekend I've blundered, I think I'd better start memorising my Murrays again, I'm getting to cocky.

Thanks for pointing that out Jim.
