Purchased a slightly used Savage A17 and i'm curious as to what kind of accuracy I should really expect.
I watched all kinds of videos on youtube that got me all pumped up to be able to shoot small groups with this new semi-auto.
This gun has about 150 rounds fired plus some from the previous owner. I've cleaned it twice.
I have been shooting the CCI A17 ammo as well as CCI V-max.
My groups at 50 yards have been much to be desired for me.
I have bed the action into the factory stock with Devcon. Its sits perfectly tight and firm into the stock now.
I have also filled the butt stock and the fore stock with spray foam to try and eliminate vibration and strengthen the fore stock.
The target below was shot at 50 yards from a sturdy bench rest on a very calm night.
Is this as good as it gets with this rifle? Should I be disappointed or do I need to break the rifle in more before the groups will tighten?
Thanks for reading

Looks pretty mediocre, I think you may have some luck with bedding, or into a boyds and bedding, and maybe recrowning.

Do you have a chronometer? I would be interested to hear what the velocity spread is. I wonder if a harmonic damper like on the mini 14 target would help any as well, alternatively trying different brands of ammo or shortening and recrowning the barrel half an inch at a time might work (though doesn't make a lot of sense in other ways)

No I don't have a chronometer. I was hopeful I didn't need to drop another $200 on a stock.
After I bed the action I have less confidence a wood stock will for sure make it better.

I did watch that video previously. I performed the same bedding technique using Devcon into the factory stock.
I'm not sure that bedding a wood stock will make much difference.
Open to suggestions.
