So I have been toying with the idea of buying one of these for quite sometime. But have been reluctant since the capacity has been limited to a 10 round mag but we now have the availability to purchase a 25round mag from butler creek is finally available to us in Canada. So is it a must have since the 10/22 has been limited or do I stick with the Ruger. Looking for thoughts and advise from anyone that has a A17. Thanks

I have an A17 and love it. I just ordered four mags from CSC, but have no first hand experience with them. Guys on RFC speak highly of them, but I want my own shakedown runs. Keep in mind, a 25 round mag of .17 HMR is about $12.....Would you be better suited with a 597?

Yup, I would love to get one but can't find a reason to buy it. No varments in the area I can't take with the .22/.22mag, it does too much damage to small game to hunt with it and I wouldn't use it on coyote or pigs...
still want one though.

I received my mags from Calgary Shooting Centre, ordered them on Monday! I have to say, these things seem solid and well made, I'm very impressed. The mag release flappy thing seems more robust than the factory mags, however, I can see it being a snag magnet. I hope the reliability is on par with the build quality, then I'm set for critters this year.

Being a big Savage fan, I've been thinking about the A17.

But its an expensive rimfire starting at $600 for the rifle, 40 cent a round, only the A17 ammo is reliable and limited to 200 yards. I'll continue to be content with my $250 93 that shoots everything.

I can load 223 cheaper but I really like the HMR. If only the firearms industry had focused on the HMR and not Mach 2 or WSM, maybe then we'd have better prices to make owning an A17 more practical.

At the end of the day, the hardcore prairie doggers or HMR fanatics will be the folks who love these.
