Hello all,

I have this old Savage chambered in .280ai that i've had for a few years now and i'm struggling to properly identify the action. It was a cheap 500$ pickup that shoots really well despite its condition and i've been wanting to get it cleaned up and make improvements on. It currently has a terrible synthetic stock but looking at the # it orignally had a hardwood stock?

I may be wrong but the synthetic stock you have could be from factory. Perhaps someone else will chime in. In the meantime here a little that may help, ( remove the space after the "HTTPS") https ://www.optics-trade.eu/blog/how-to-know-which-savage-model-110-you-have/
 
It's definately pre-accutrigger. Savage made staggerfeed actions (4.275" between action screws) where the magazine was attached to the action. These actions also had flat vs rounded receivers that used different scope mounts.

Savage centerfeed actions (4.4" between action screws) came in fixed magazines which attach to the stock or detachable magazine system. They have round receivers.

If you want to keep it simple buy an MDT stock/chassis as they work with stagger and centerfeed actions.

I own 4 pre-accutrigger Savage rifles. One is a Stevens 200, a Savage 11F, and 2 other ones of unknown model. I honestly don't care what model they are. Savage customer service may be able to tell you. Mine have been rebarrelled and all have new stocks/chassis. Enjoy your rifle. They are great shooters.

Im undecided if I want to throw it in a chassis or just a nice stock. The lighter the better as this rifle is used for sheep & now goats in a few more weeks.

This one is the 5.06" long action, its definitely a Savage as it has the old school Savage logo.

Unsure of what trigger I should replace it with, I know many go timney but there are a few more options out there now. Ill probably swap to a 1 piece rail as this was the only thing I could find at the time. Its shot so well I havent wanted to swap it out.
 
give savage a call / e-mail with the serial number they should be able to tell you what you have.

the pre accutriggers are fine, I have several older savage rifles and they are easy to adjust.

the hole spacing of the receiver mounting will help, there are I think 4 different lengths
