Savage American? What's your opinions?

I see the Model 14/114's (Classics) as the wood stocked version of the Model 16/116's.

Both are based on the Savage 110 action.

These are Savages "better/best" rifles.

$1000 for a better model rifle is a great price in 2016.

I just put a Rem 700 SPS on the shelf today that is priced at least "two premium boxes of ammo" more expensive than the price you quote for the Mod 114 (see how I did that without advertising a price) :)

Hey, if you are in the market for a wood stocked 7 mil lefty you could do a whole lot worse and probably no better, especially at that price point.

I have one in 270 but its a few years old and is in stainless, bang flopped a 5x5 white tail the last time I had it out

I had a stainless fluted american classic in 22-250. Was nice overall but sold it because it would not produce much more speed then my 223 but with 10gr more powder. The wood was ok nothing special it is just a base model boyds walnut. The frond tip is black plastic. Think I paid $600 for it

Ya that is way to much imho.

Not if you plan on buying a brand new rifle in the next couple of years (unless our buck goes back to par overnight).

A 700 SPS is NOW a thousand dollar rifle. A 700 BDL which might be a comparison for this will be on the shelf a little above $1300 this year.

Or how about a walnut stocked Ruger Hawkeye in the mid $1200 range.

Then there is a Tikka T3 Hunter at about $1200 or an X-Bolt at a little over $1100.

There will not be a "next step up" rifle that was imported in 2016 that will sell for under a grand.

There "will be" bare Axis rifles with $500+ stickers this year. A stainless Axis XP with a scope is now a $650 rifle.

You need to toss out whatever prices you were used to. They are gone and unlikely to come back.

Ya and this prices are to much for those rifles as well.

I sure am glad I got the rifles I want for a good price already. The used market will be getting hit up a lot more as well. Hell just bought a hardly used m70 for $750 shipped. There are still great buys out there so no need really to pay $1000 for a $600 gun.

Around here remington's sit on the shelf for years as it is. They will sit on shelves for longer now. Everything else they bring in sells but rem's.

My local store has wby vg2's for $599. Much better gun IMO and price diff allows a b&c stock..

This!! They even go on sale sometimes for 399. Sure the stock may not be what you like but they are shooters and for the cost of an axis you get one heck of a rifle. Add a stock of your choice they can still be had for $800

A co-worker has one in 7-08 and he likes it alot... personally, I think there are a lot better ways to spend a grand.

Cabela's has the Ruger M77 Hawkeye All Weather on for $699... and has the 7 RM in stock... much better rifle at a much better price.
