It looks like Savage is continuing to enter all forms of target shooting. They have just announced for 2009, their Target action will be available as a dual port catering to the BR/Bench shooting audience - varminters.

Love the concept and the stock looks very promising. Concerns would be the heavy bolt lift and size of the exit port. Maybe there will be some tweaking in the production models?

Now the simplicity of the conversion is obvious if you have played with a Savage. All they had to do was cut a Left Hand action port into the existing RH target action. Likely a 30 sec task during production but what a difference it makes to the audience it would appeal to.

Cals will be 308, 6Br and 6.5-284. Component actions will also be available.

Savage continues to raise the bar on what a mass production manufacturer can offer the shooting public. They certainly are taking comments and lessons from shooting forums and applying to their product.

I am sure this will be another hot seller. Congrats and all other manf better start looking at ways to keep up.

I have to give them credit, they have this market completely to themselves. It is indeed unfortunate that customers don't have greater choice for a true factory target rifle, but if Savage is it, lead-on! I never thought I would live to see someone actually market a "Factory Benchrest" rifle, and I would have pissed myself if it were in 6ppc, but good on them.

Just wish they would make some LH actions....

So do I and i'm a right handed shooter. I think for bench and f-class shooting, a non-dominant action would be perfect so as not to lose trigger hand or cheek weld. I would love to build a lefty gun on a thumbhole for a right handed shooter

For those who think the dual port actions are the latest thing in BR actions, the first dual port I saw used in competition was in 1978. I think the Savage is a neat developement though. Too bad the tolerances and alignment are not a little better.
Ian, Ive been shooting right handed rifles left handed for over thirty years and can tell you it's not all that great. Not a handicap either. Regards, Bill.
