Hello, im new to the forum and id like to say thanks for having me. My question is i have a savage 30.06 and the bolt keeps decocking after firing. Ive taken it apart cleaned and reassembled but still the same. Anybody else had this issue and whats the fix? Big thanks

The bolt decocks , the pin buy the handle moves forward relaxing the spring so the bolt wont work. Have to keep resetting it

Firing a gun decocks it. Cocked means the firing pin is held back, ready to be released. Pulling the trigger releases the firing pin, thus decocking it.

nothing preventing him from contributing, you can’t post vids/photos till you get certain nr of posts, prevents antis from spamming this forum too often, with their propaganda, as far as i understand, check your user agreement, all of us had to agree to it

Folks, after i i shoot a round i have to take the bolt out, put the pin by the handle against the edge of something and apply alot of pressure and compress the spring locking it in place. Then put the bolt back in. Jope this helps describe my issue without pictures.

Interesting. It's supposed to recock when you open the bolt. I'm thinking maybe you reassembled the bolt wrong? If you PM me I can give you my email so you can send pics and I can post them for you if we can't figure it out.

that’s more clear now,

when the bolt is in the rifle, closed position, do you see the ‘Savage’ sign in the ejection port?

there was a small chance your bolt was assembled upside doen, but if you can see it then there is a problem with sear connecting with the cocking piece (don’t kill me over the parts names, it’s been ages since i done any gunsmithing) i made a mistake of decockimg a bolt on a M70, ages ago, but you can’t fit that bolt back in once it was decocked

there should be a recessed edge in the back of the receiver, that pushes on the piece that you push on when you #### or cycle the bolt, find ot why they don’t meet up and you can solve the problem

Sounds like you do not have enough bolt rotation to lock the cocking piece pin in place due to a handle issue or too much slop. Does/can your handle hit your scope?
