Do you reload? the bullet weight you intend to use determines what twist is needed. Your factory barrel has a 1-9 twist. if you want to use heavier bullets 75-90gr, then you should go with a slightly faster twist (8 or 7).

You will need the nut wrench plus either an action wrench or a barrel vise. It is possible to make a vise out of two hard wood block and a couple large C clamps if you have a sturdy work bench. I think mystic precision has a link to a good write up on re barreling savages, its worth checking out.

Merci Bob, Thank you Bob

Where did you found your Barrel?
when you are ready to make me a stock please tell me( je t'ai ecrit la semaine derniere)
question ?

20Moa ? how long you shoot ? 100-600 meters or 300-900?

thank you for your Help

Yes i reload and i want to try to shoot at 600 meters wit heavy bullet 70-90 grs VLD bullet

thank you i look on Mystic website

Most of the time I shoot 100m, but I wanted my gun to be ready for anything, and the 20MOA base is one piece as oppose to the 2 pieces base I had when I bought the Axis

Then as long as you don't mind losing the ability to shoot the lighter weight factory loads the 1-7 would be the way to go. My .223 still has the original 1-9 barrel but maybe someone with a 1-7 twist has some experience with how low you can go in that regard.

Some of the sponsors (Mystic, North-shore barrels) can do prefits without breaking the bank. Mystic in particular has done lots of work getting the 90gr Berger working in his savage and might be able to offer a little more expertise. Or maybe Bob can share some of his luck in finding a 12VLP take off barrel.

Edit; Found the write up, the link was actually on the North Shore site.
