I'm in the market for a bolt action in 223 Remington. Does anyone have any helpfull information for me on the Savage AXIS, pros, cons, whatever info will be helpfull.
Its a cheap gun, that is both its greatest strength and weakness. It is a tough workhorse accurate and good to go. however the fit and finish lacks and its not exactly a show gun. I love mine
Thank you so far everyone. A pretty rifle isn't really my cup of tea, so to speak. Function is everything to me. I'm so out of practice right now, that the AXIS will probably out shoot me.
Read this article. You can safely skip to the section on the savage edge/axis. It certainly will outshoot you.
However, the trigger is a big heavy. It does work in with time. Just remember to squeeze while maintaining your sight picture. If you're just focused on maintaining your sight picture and breathing and squeezing gently it should be a surprise when the gun goes off and you'll hit your target dead on
The thing to remember with the Axis, they have heavy triggers. The bolts are pretty smooth and they have detach magazines, which the Steven's doesn't have.
It sounds like you're after functionality, so I'd recommend you get an Axis. I have shot one a few times and found them to do about .8-1.5 inches @100y with factory ammo.
It came today. My initial impression? I'm impressed so far. Better than I expected for the price. Too bad it's going to be a couple of weeks before I get to try it out.
i just got the savage axis 30-06 sprg and the weight the feel and look great smooth bolt action i do like the heavy trigger, the recoil pad is nice and being all synthetic stock and the gun being weather proof floating barrel and came with a scope 450 is not bad but i traded a 20ga and .303 sad to say but all in all 250 down not bad. just gotta wait for the reg card a the range i go.
