Hey guys how's it going. On Saturday I went to lebaron and picked up a SAVAGE AXIS XP CAMO in .270win.

I took it to the range yesterday for the first time to zero it in. It zeroed in fine and the rifle is very accurate I am very pleased for the money. My question to you guys is after every round the mag would drop down just a little and I'd have to push it back up into the mag well again or else while cycling the bolt it wouldn't catch the next round to feed in the chamber? It was really wierd. Another savage axis owner happened to be there and he was chambered in .223 and this was not happening to his

Has anyone experienced this b4?

Here is some info to help you guys out. I was shooting off a caldwell rest and shooting 130gr winchester super X ammo.

Any info or suggestions would help...Thanks guys

ROB

***************I found out what was wrong today! I went back to lebaron and the guy said "Ahhh I see the problem" I said ok whats up! hehe...the top tab on the back of the mag wasnt there! I hadn't seen the .223 mag at the range that day or else I would have noticed right away..Anyways they replaced the mag for me on the SPOT and said they would deal with savage themselves...I was very impressed and happy!*****************

It sounds like it is not locking in place properly. When you insert the mag is the bolt open or closed? I have a 223 and like your friend I have no issues. Maybe there is dirt or grease in the notch that the mag locks into. I'm not home right now to look at the locking system for the mag but will look tomorrow.

It is inserted when the bolt is open everytime. and I slam it in there sooo. Ty soo much for ur help and feedback. I'll check for dirt and such when I get home as well...THANKS

I have an Axis in .223 and have not experienced any mag issues yet. Mine locks in and does not move at all-I would try another mag if you can get one.I handled a Stevens at the time I purchased the Axis and thought the Axis was a better gun. I did a lot of online research before I purchased my Axis and I think that the mag issue you are experiencing is not a very common problem. Get another mag-having 2 is a good idea with a clip gun anyway and they are pretty cheap to boot.

I just called the gun store I like to frequent about something completely different than this, but I got a chance to ask as I'm thinking of buying an Axis myself., and they said none of the Axis rifles sold have come back with this problem. It's mostly Remington and Marlin that people have issues with.

I hope you got your receipt.

I've had no problems with my .223 edge either. I've got a couple buddies with .223's as well and another with a .243. Noone has had those issues. Check with lebaron, could just be a mag issue, and they could change it out for you.

Hey have you had any issues with the 223 ejecting spent brass? Sometimes mine doesnt fully eject the brass its like the chamber is too large and it gets lost in the cavern

Thanks for asking...Ya i did my research on this gun b4 I bought it and no one has had any type of this problem. I will call lebaron tomorrow...and yes I have my reciept I just bought it on Saturday :)

Back in first then click up.

I got mine used and the bottom plate had the rear attaching spot cracked. this eventually broke off so the mag bottom is a bit loose. This allows the mag to shift and does affect feeding.

I just put a couple of pieces of electrical tape to hold the base in place and center in the stock. Locks up tight now, and feeds like a dream.

Might get a new mag bottom some day but the rifle works so well, I may not make the investment.
