I have read here and there that some people have either cut a couple of loops off the spring or replaced it entirely with a ball point pen spring to bring the draw weight down. Have any of you any experience with these methods or some other suggestions that don't include buying a new trigger?

Yupp. Used a spring from a pilot g2 pen. Your average bic pen spring is too skinny.

You'll also need a screw. I forget what size exactly, but google should provide the answer, or even just searching around here.

I choose this method, so that if I ever sell the gun I still have the original spring (although I have zero intention on ever selling it...)

Also pay close attention to your safety. Don't touch the screw beside the spring, and make sure it works once you've got the trigger back together. I needed to adjust the screw the spring was on to get the safety to engage properly.

I snipped a loop and a half off mine and am happy with it ..it's a 22 250.and shots great for the price . I don't have to worry about it in the bush..Dutch

I snipped the sping a couple loops on a 7mm-08. Trigger improved a lot but still could not the gun to group. I just have got the only axis that didn't shoot I cut one loop at a time and tested for safety and weight.... Not hard at all... Good luck.

Thanks everyone. A snipping I shall go .... My first inclination was to buy a new trigger and a Boyd's stock but then I had to shake my head and remind myself this was suppose to be a kicking around the farm fields gun. Heck the upgrades would have cost more than the original rifle ;)

Sniped off about a coil and 1/2. Much lighter draw weight now. Probably close to half what it was. Still creepy as heck but manageable. Tested safety and all ok.
