Hey there, got a question for the board. i have two savageaxis' in my safe, looking to consolidate towards something better. Looking for honest values of what youthink they’re worth so I can maybe post on EE.

1- axis I, brand new never fired 243 calibre, it's in a boyds nutmeg prarie hunter stock, has a weaver 1 piece base, andcurrently has a Tasco 2.5-10x42mm varmint scope
2- axis I, again brand new, still has stickers onit. 270 calibre Taken in on trade, never fired, in original stock, has the original BushnellSharp shooter 3-9x40mm scope.

What am I looking at for values?

cheers

A new Axis can be had for under $300 with mail in rebates so the 270 might be a $200-$250 gun on the EE since you are the second owner even if it's unfired. I'd rather see it fired so I know it works as there wouldn't be any warranty to fall back on. Scope is not worth anything.

For the Boyds stocked one it's a little trickier, the inletting is hit or miss even though it's a $150 stock. I'd look at it expecting it needs some work and bedding at minimum. $400 +/- would be a place to start. Scope you may as well sell on it's own, won't really add any value to the package.

It was just a few months ago one of sponsors had them on sale for under $300 and there was a $50US mail in rebate. You were into them for about $230 when it was all said and done. Up to you to decide if $200 + shipping for used is worth it over $230 landed for new.
I got one in 7mm-08 from Wholesale Sports after that sponsor sale (missed out duh) and it was $329 with $25 off, free shipping, and the same $50US mail in rebate so I was about $250 into that one.
Just watch for sales, always check for mail in rebates the $50US is still on

Interesting, but no sights/scope. So having the scope included your advise of asking $200 ishh for his 270 is not really fair, even if it's a cheap scope, you still have a scope that can do the work.

I sincerily doubt that you will found a unfired 270 Axis with scope on EE for around $225 shipped, unless the guy is really desesperate.

The ones on sale including the one I got in 7mm-08 came with the bases/rings/scope....they were the package rifles for those prices. The rings are $10 Chinese Tasco equivalent and not something I would recommend for anything except a .22, the scope is notoriously garbage for falling apart and not something I would ever use to hunt game with.
And yes, the EE is where people ask more for used then you can get the same item new lol

I got rid of the scope that mine came with asap. Put it on a 22lr and the massive recoil of a 22lr broke the scope in short order. The scope they come with is a total pos. Be lucky to sell it so somebody that knows nothing about scopes for $30

JT hasn't legalize that wacky tobacky quite yet...lol :)

Funny my cheap Bushnell scope on my Axis survived few thousand round of .223 before I swapped it onto this SKS that has seen thousands more.

It is a cheap optic no lying about it but treat it decent and it will treat you decent.

With that said....I've dropped the scope quite a few times, exposed it to extensive vibration and banging around and it still just keeps spot on target, even while off roading on bad service roads with the subwoofer turned up so loud I wonder if I will cause an avalanche haha.

Back just before Christmas a I got one on sale for $329. I bought one on one of the "spend 200 bucks get a $50 gift card" at that particular store.

It was also when Savage had their "buy and Axis get back $50 USD" (about 65 Canuck). That brought the price to about $205 plus tax (all in under $230 for sure in the end).

And now if I try to sell it there is "no warranty to the new owner - original owner only", so even "unfired" it's a "used gun with no warranty" which then to be fair, has to be sold at a "discount".

Exactly my point, yours works, next guys falls apart on a .22. That kind of spotty reliability is why it's not something I would ever use seriously. I don't gamble with equipment when taking game...just not worth it.

I had a 223 and the scope is bad. I guess the point is the axis package scopes have no consistency: you might end up with one that is rock solid or a complete garbage. It is an interesting little rifle for a while before I switched to 22lr

Yeah, I fully understand the principle of the discount, but no one is obligated to loose money if they bought the gun without the company discount, following this you will always have real low baller offers based on this company discount....wanting a discount on top of the discount...., always happen..., so if you want to buy this gun you have two choice, either pay a good price that you will be zen with it and not keep any thought about this famous discount OR wait until the next famous compagny rebate be available.

Note : if we follow the basic of selling a used unfired Axis 270 with a discount over the reduced price paid of $230, then the used Axis should be sold something like $175 ? ....... The price of an SKS )

I had the same situation selling a 12g that I bought at the full price, I've received many low ball offers based on a famous "one time per year rebate", just wait for the rebate then,..

You'll never get useful money out of those rifles. Keep them. Use one (the 270) until you can afford something that gives you greater pride of ownership.

After that, they become loaners/backups/teachers.

Or just wait until all the "old stock" Axis have been sold off by all the vendors and the "new imported in 2016" ones are the only ones out there.

A newly imported Axis XP will be on the shelves with a sticker somewhat over 500 bucks this year. It's then that a $350 or $400 "used one" will look like a bargain. And an Axis II with scope will be a $650 rifle.

Did you think you would see the day? A (retail) $650 Axis....
