savage axis with ar15 mag ?

right in the middle of b.c.
jus a thought that has been running through my head lately .

a ar15 mag ( with 223) can it be held in a correct position to the axis receiver so that it functions properly ? ....... assuming they both fire 223 .

I don't have a axis to take apart and compare right now .

and if not a axis , what about a savage / stevens ?

that is what I was thinking ,building some sort of " lower " that would house the magazine .


what I was wondering about was the opening at the bottom of the action ,is it wide enough that make a ar15 mag work ?

last time I checked the mags for the axis are single stack and narrower .
 
Yeah, the Mossberg MVP would be the easiest choice.

It probably is possible to modify the Axis, and it would make a great project if you're doing it for the experience, but if you just want a bolt gun that uses AR mags then the MVP will save you a lot of hassle.
 
the mvp isn't what i'm looking for ........ I have a thing against 2 things .... the win 270 and Mossberg firearms , all of them .


I've found a 80% ar lower i'm going to play with in the near future .
think a tube gun but with less weight that takes ar mags based on a savage axis . i'm thinking about chambering it in 7mm tcu .

I just want to double check, you realize that anything based on, or created from, an AR15 lower receiver is forever and always restricted if not prohibited? People have tried making single shot tube guns from AR lowers before, and they get classified as Restricted AR variants.

I just don't want you to get all excited and then have your hopes crushed.

I suppose it might be worth contacting Dlask, they do some custom gunsmithing and might have some suggestions.

If you don't have you heart set specifically on AR magazines, there are quite a few firearms that use AICS style magazines that can probably hold 12-13 cartridges of .223 in their 10 round magazines. There are several brands of detachable bottom metal for various brands of bolt action rifles, and a few chassis systems like the MDT TAC-21 or LSS. Quite legal and non-restricted. Maybe, I'm not sure if you want to use AR mags for commonality or appearances.
