So I picked up one of these in 30/06 a few months back. Just getting back into hunting this year and am getting pretty excited about it. I've enjoyed the rifle so far just putting holes in paper and the price was right for me. Anyone actually taken an animal with it that has any thoughts on it?

I had one in 270 and it was a good gun for the price. I nabbed a whitetail buck at 75 yards in 2011 with it. I was pushin bush and he stood up and i took a shot and smoked him, didnt take another step. Make sure your mag is in all the way when your pushing because they do fall out and then your SOL

Awesome! I've got many many years of hunting ahead of me to find a higher quality rifle but for the meantime if it will drop me something to munch on it will do!

My first big game rifle was an axis stainless in 30-06. Shot really good but in the winter that stock is uber cold. The day I got my buck that year it was -33 and I forget how cold with the wind-chill. Sat in the blind form 6ish until 1130 ish when he showed his face. 165gr sst dropped him no problem at 39 yards. Hit exactly where I was aiming.

I have the 223 one. Bought it for predator hunting. I've been using it for bounty hunting beaver right now. Crappy finish but shoots great. Nice thing is I don't worry about going out in the rain with it or it bouncing around in the truck.

That's the exact reason I got it. I have a 760 game master .308 and it's a pain to clean when it gets dusty or in the weather so I got the savage. Throw it in a mud puddle and just rinse it off hah.

I have the .308, it's an awesome rifle. Other people can spend the thousands on hunting rifles. The deer don't care if they've been shot with a $500 gun or a $2000 one. I ordered a boyd stock the other day. I can't wait to set it all up.

I didn't mention I got the combo with the bushnell scope on it. Have any of you gotten to try out the scope? I've read bad things on some reviews but I'm not sure what people expect when you spent $400 on a rifle+scope.

Hi mate,
My friend bought a Axis in .308 as he was in a similar position to you, just getting back into hunting with a rifle an had a budget to stay within.

He got a Bushnell combo with the rifle, I took it out to the range an shot 1 moa groups at 100m using Rem ammo..... So ticked the box straight away for Accuracy issues.

next was the Heavy trigger which I believe could be changed completely, a spring or gunsmith job....

Then the Scope.... The cross hair plain had moved , or something in there did an it wasn't right, So my mate pulled the scope apart and re aligned it.... screwed it back up an has shot some Cracking Fallow stags with it this year...... so Eff'ed if I know but that $600 combo is doing its thing no frills.

IMO, buying an Axis on a budget is a great thing for a hunting rifle, an spending $300 on a Leupold VX1 atleast gives you good optics for any number of Rifles you own afterward.

I pulled the scope and put it on a savage 10. Scope works excellent so far. Running a 6-24 tasco on the axis. Personally I don't want a $300+ scope on a rifle that spends most of its time getting abused. I think for general hunting high priced scopes are overrated.

I'll most likely replace the scope after this season just because of all the stories I hear of it going sideways. Don't want that to happen without me knowing when I take a shot at an animal.

My scope on my 270 was just fine for the 200+ rounds I put through it. My biggest turn off of these guns is the stock, however for $100ish a Boyds can be on it and make it one hell of a gun!

I love my axis. Ill see about getting a picture up soon. The rifle, scope, bi pod and a few modifications cost me under a grand. I stiffened the stock up and worked on the trigger. Light weight and accurate, i get beaked all day about it but when it comes down to actual shooting, nobody says ####.

I have one in .270 I put a boyds thumbhole (I really didn't like the synthetic it came with) and vortex on it and it shoots .75" groups all day at 100 yards. I cut a coil off the spring and polished the trigger. I was going to put a timney in it but it seems pretty good like it is now. I really enjoy shooting it
