Hi
Recently picked this up - removed the scope for my tried and true Bushnell 3-9x40 Dusk to Dawn (2004) even though I like the one that came with it - sighted it in - it shoots very good out to 200 yards three shots way under two inches - good enough for me - trigger is a consistent 5.5 pounds which is the way I like it since I will be wearing gloves on when I am out hunting with it - no plans on changing it or modifying it whatsoever. I will be re-installing the scope/rings that came with it later on and keep it as factory original. It's a hunting rifle am not going to be throwing funds at it - to me it's good enough.

Just wanted to throw this out there and yes I would buy another one

I have an axis 2 with accu trigger in 25-06. Also came with the weaver scope. I had planned to replace it but the damn thing just works so well. It has held zero for 5 years. The rifle itself is consistently the most accurate in my collection. I have xbolts, tikkas, winchester model 70, all shoot well, some are finicky on ammo, but the cheapie Savage outshoots all of them. One of the biggest concerns I see online is the flimsy plastic tab on the magazine. I have been in some pretty cold Michigan Upper Penninsula deer hunts and I am still on the original mag.

It's windy today where I am was planning on doing some Coyote hunting - I am confident that the Axis will not disappoint - the one I have came with the push button tab on the magazine it locks as it should when I insert it. I gifted me the Wheeler scope mounting kit ($179.00 at Cabelas) going to be using it when I re-install the factory scope back on the rifle. I know the accu-trigger makes a big improvement over the regular trigger - but for some odd reason I like the regular trigger better - I am sure once my trigger finger gets stronger it will feel lighter. Let's keep how good these rifles actually are too ourselves :)

You should look into the updated magazines from Savage. They have a spring loaded sliding tab, they seem a lot better. They work with any stock that used the cheesy folded plastic tab setup you are referring to.

I’ve had two Savage Axis rifles, one just an axis and one an axis ii. They both shot very well. I grew to dislike the stocks though. My axis had the old style stock, the axis ii had the new style. They just didn’t fit me well and seemed a little bendy. Despite that the rifles did shoot well. Happy hunting guys!
