Well recently picked up a 17 wsm b-mag. I have to say interesting gun and ballistic pushing lots of limits. The stock was warped, twisted and poorly trimmed. So I can not justify a new stock with the Canadian dollar suffering from Liberalism worth more than the gun. So Glassed the rear and barrel. drilled graphite rod into fore front stock which straightened her out and a bi-pod doesn't make the stock droop. I am really amazed at the ballistic and enjoying get to know the gun. This is a old fire bell, thought it would ring out and bounce of little did I know. Yes Virginia it will knock down coyotes at 200m.

I love mine. I glass bedded mine and it made a huge difference in accuracy. I agree the Tupperware stocks are junk as well. From everything I've heard it sounds like the majority if not all of them seem to have the barrel touch or close to it on the left side. I'm going to give in and order a Boyd's for mine just because I do like everything about it except the stock. Mines the Sporter barrel so I shoot 3 shot groups as I find the barrel heats up pretty quick and by the 4th shot if I shoot pretty rapidly the groups start to slightly open up but it shoots sub m.o.a. I have a target set up across my field in the fence line which is 180 yds, and the last time I had it out plinking on a calm day I shot a 3 shot group of 1.417" and it consistently shoots under 1 3/4" at that distance using 20 gr ammo.

very nice, they sure have some punching power compared to 17 HMR. Very respectable pattern at 180 yds. be nailing what your aiming at. Talking to a guy in China about laminate stock for the b-mag can let you know when I hear if interested not paying $300 + just to much.

I would appreciate that when you hear. Thinking on ordering the birch Sporter for my Axis as well ($80 American) so with shipping it works out to about $350 Cad. Only about $10 more shipping for 2 stocks compared to 1.

. Every stock across the border was going to cost me $300 + just not worth it. I see what you mean, who makes the stock your'e talking about. It might be somethings to look at order a few and get them to eat the shipping it's sure worth a try.

Its a laminate stock directly from Boyds. $137.00 U.S. for the b-mag and the one I'm thinking on for my savage axis is a cheaper version made of birch. $80 for it. Like I said shipping cost is only $10 extra for the second stock. I'd thought on a laminate for the axis as well (which are nicer) but these birch stocks have the same look as the new savage axis II with wood stocks do, and I don't mind the look of them.

Will the Birch stocks fit the 17 wsm b-mag sportster barrel and what laminate a standard style? dam you keep making me thinking, should I buy a bull barrel etc etc the life of a gun nut..lol

No the birch stocks are only made for savage axis, Ruger American and mosin nagant. They have them on the accessories page of website. The stock I'm figuring on for the 17 is called prarie hunter, although they make likely a dozen different models from the at one laminate which has many features like adjustable cheekpiece, adjustable butt pad to change the length of pull. Different grips etc to thumbhole laminate and even some synthetic versions.
I've ordered from them before and had no problems. The only thing I don't like is any of the deals on their rapid fire page are not able to ship to Canada for some reason. Not sure why other than discount prices. I tried ordering one for the 17 last fall they had on sale for $109, but they wouldn't ship it up here.
When I bought mine I was told the Sporter was kind of iffy for accuracy. He told me that if accuracy was bad I could bring it back and they would send it back to savage and give me what I paid back twords the bull barrel model.
I'm more than happy with accuracy out of it though. I don't do alot of target shooting with it so I never heat it up much.
It's my varmint and crow rifle around the farm. I've shot crows anywhere from 40 to about 225 yds which is more than accurate enough for me.

I have found the same problem were they wouldn't ship sales across borders or at least sale priced. I do have to give a shout out to Lyman, they sure stepped up when my new tumbler failed. Courier had one to my door in days and I live in the Great White North. I have the sport model and have got it knocking coyote's down at 200 M, just a great gun IMHO. It really didn't take that much to settle down the stock, but the graphite rod embedded in the forefront stock sure did the job. I found that statement people make about the barrel heating up is BS, I'd say learn to aim and hit the target only takes one shell. When I do shoot target usually groups of 3, barrel heat has never been an issue. They must knock the hell out the crows, sure lay the coyote's down good hitting power.

Yeah they're hard on crows, especially at close range. Most of them are cut in half. Would like to get out myself and give her a try on coyotes. I figured it would work pretty good on them. I've shot a couple nuisance coons with it as well that were making a mess in the neighbours barn. Getting into the chop bin, pi**ing and sh**ing in the chop. Most I've ever shot with the 22 do alot of flopping around even with headshots, but the 17 they don't hardly twitch.
Main reason I actually bought it is because I'm going through some medical issues right now (fibromyalgia and rheumatoid arthritis) and I can't handle any recoil. Wanted something with some punch and longer range than the 22. It fit the bill perfectly.

When Boyds announced the availability of their first B-Mag stocks, I ordered the Prairie Hunter Pepper Laminate right away. Back then it was just a little over a hundred bucks shipped! I topped my B-Mag with a new Redfield Revolution 4-12 mounted in Weaver rings. Shoots pretty good 3 round groups at 100 yards but they start to open up if shot too rapidly.

That really looks sharp. Same model I've decided on, still debating between the pepper or nutmeg. Did you have any issues with fit at all? I've ordered 2 others and fit and finish was perfect.

I can relate with the medical issues, trying to shove me in a wheel chair but fighting to stay on feet. I figured those crows didn't have a chance as the coyote's just roll over and go stiff legged. I am building rifles to pass down to 8 grandsons with three down and 5 to go. I am sure it is something they will remember and I taught them all gun safety and how to shoot. I am living day to day but having fun doing it. I glad your liking your WSM, great rifle light years ahead of other rim fires and shoot it daily. Cheers

Thats great youre doing that for your grandsons. I bought a marlin 60 for my grandson about 5 years ago. Let him pick out the boyds stock for it. He also put bipod on it and cherry picked my spare scopes. Ive put mcarbo trigger spring kit and their target trigger in as well. That little rifle now shoots less than 1/2" groups at 50 yds and qualified for the 1/2" challenge.
He can hit empty 22 shells at 50 yds consistently. Unfortunatly they moved to the city a few years ago and hes lost interest.
Hoping he will take it up again eventually.
Sorry to hear youre having issues as well. Good to hear youre fighting through it though.
Im doing the same, as hard as it is at times but have to keep trying.

@colonel3006, the Boyd's worked quite well with a bit of fitting around the mag well required for the mag to seat properly. Other than that it's great. Hmm photobucket isn't working now...
