I am looking for gunsmith service to bush Savage Axis .223 bolt firing pin hole.
The pin diameter is 0.068" and pin hole is 0.073". So the difference is 5 thou - the recommended gap is 2-3 thou.
There are some services in US, but I'd like to find one in Canada, preferably in GTA.
Please help.

Forget to mention that bolt head material is SS.
Also I need to change my requirements. Bush hole ID must be in 60-65 thou range, preferably drilled by 1/16" bit.
And firing pin downsized to have 0.002" gap.
There are a few services in US in $50-150 price range, but I am looking for domestic Canadian gunsmith.
Please advise.

If you have replaced the bolt head, I don't see the point in bushing the old one. In addition, unless you were regularily blanking primers, it is not really an issue. Keep in mind, if you have the hole reduced in the old head, the new head will have to be bushed as well in order that the firing pin is usable with both. The only reason to bush a boltface is to eliminate blanking. If blanking is not occurring, there is no reason to bush.

So far I've got a lot a cratering and a few piercings. And I know that to work with bushed bolt I'll need to downsize a firing pin. Would be nice to get a second pin for this exercise.

Yeah, that has nothing to do with the incredibly minor amount of space around the firing pin. An extra .003 is nothing. Likely the tip is misshapen or has too much protrusion, or your loads are too hot.

Dome shaped pin with protrusion of under .060". I think it this geometrically OK, is'n it?
Keep thinking about your <<too hot load>> comment.
With my custom rifle project I am trying to solve two problems, initially considered unrelated - cratering and short SAAMI spec free bore. But after your comment I rethink it.
Historically I had no problems with commercial and hand loaded ammo on my Savage bolt action rifle. However last year I have installed a new custom Shilen barrel and eventually start seeing cratering. The reason for swapping barrels was fast 1:8" twist and interest to use 75-80 GR projectiles. Upon ordering this barrel I specify just 223rem chamber and got barrel with tight SAAMI spec chamber. This chamber has pretty shallow free bore may not be sufficient for long bullets and this may generate a pressure spike even for non hot or commercial 55-62 GR ammo. Hypothetically this may be the reason I start getting cratering on any ammo.
After this reconsideration I would like to address a free bore first and verify if cratering going to vanished. To do this I am looking to get (borrow, rent, steal)))) a .223 throating reamer, preferably hand operated, like PRG Uni-Throater. The idea is to extend the free bore to 0.060-0.070" and convert SAAMI chamber to Wydle one.
Any idea how to get such a reamer? Especially in GTA neighborhood?
Thanks again for your assistance,
Regards,
alex

I have had extreme cratering on my savage to the point of piercing on many shots, really bad, everyone said loaded too hot. The fix was check the protrusion and install a new/heavier spring. All cratering gone, piercing gone and accuracy drastically improved. Don't say the spring is new and etc. Get a blitz spring from Brownells. Any spring will die in about five years and must be replaced. Always store it in the fired position. Just because it goes bang is not enough

Thanks! This is another aspect I did not think about and going to try.
But free bore extension is also in my mind. I am interested in getting a thoating reamer to convert my SAAMI chamber to Wyldy one.
Anyone has this reamer please PM.
