So I have just bought a brand new Savage Edge Axis XP, from Epps.

For the price this gun is awesome. I am more of a pistol and shotgun guy, but I thought I should get a bolt gun.

The fit and finish is awesome, no play in the gun and no sharp edges etc.

The factory mounting of the scope has been done properly, from what I can tell.

The barrel is blued and the bolt is stainless steel.

Bonus is the factory mounted scope if a Bushnell and not some Chinese no name brand crap.

The detachable mag does feel a little flimsy and is half metal and half polymer.

The will be a range report when I take it out but overall, from first impressions I give it a A+ and for the price $374.00 taxes in, you cannot go wrong.

Now my question for you guys is, do you know where I can purchase extra mags? Epps has seem to run out.

Now some gun ####,

I haven't picked up any extra mags as yet, but picked mine up for mainly hunting purposes so haven't had the need for an extra mag. I do love mine in .223 and if my buddy takes his .308 back then I'll probably pick up another axis in .308 to cover my deer hunting needs.

You could try Cabela's in Wpg. I have the Edge in .223 and for the money I don't think you could find a better shooting rifle for 3 tiimes the money. With my handloads I've shot several 5 shot groups that go under 1/2 in. @ 100 yrds.

Savage will ship you mags. That was the route I had to go when I converted a savage package rifle from .243 to .223. The price not more than those of Canadian suppliers.

I have a stainless 223 version. Initial thoughts are it's a good gun for the buck. The trigger was a bit stiff at 7lbs, but that's now fixed at 3.5. It's not an adjustable trigger per se, but there are ways. When you take it apart, you can see where the cost saving measure were made. Having owned several savage bolts over the years, it's interesting to see the changes. 2 position vs 3 position safety, bolts are quite similar to the regular Savages. Standard length action by the looks of it, there's lots of room for the little 223 in there. Have a new 6-18 scope going on it so once that's done, I'll head out to the range and see what the little gal can do. First impressions are this is probably the best bang 4 buck deal out there. Skip the cheap remmy's and the plastic extractor mossbergs. Not sure about the new Marlin as I have not had the chance to play with one of those, but the Savage comes in stainless, with a clip. Double bonus in my book.

Where did you find one in stainless? I want one in stainless too!!! :D

3 times the money, oh please.

Yep. I agree. Don't/won't own an Edge or its replacement the Axis, but my 111FCXP3 shoots that and I don't think many $1200 shoot any better.
I have a buddy with a Steyer and he can only shoot 3/8" groups with his while my wife shoots just under 5/8"groups. When I shoot both, they both group a just under 1/2". So tell me again why I need to spend an additional $800 for 1/16" at 100yds?
This is something I really want to know.

My problem with this thread is how no one mentioned how smooth the bolt is.

How did you sort out the trigger? That's one thing I noticed right away, it's stiff like revolver.

Like I keep saying, Savage just gets it, along with Ruger and Sako.

The trigger is as simple as they come. I took it apart and polished the surfaces and started nipping away at the coil spring a little at a time. And your right about the bolt. I have'nt had an problems with it binding.
