I'm not sure if I'm in the right thread, but maybe someone can help. I have a Savage No4 Mk1* with US Property markings. The odd thing about this gun is that it has been counterbored 3" and has a triangle stamped on the top of the receiver just behind the barrel. Serial number is 86C30XX below which is a capital P.

Is this a "line-throwing" conversion? It shoots well and I've had it checked by an armorer, but he was not sure of the triangle stamping on top of the receiver.

I should add that it looks like the triangle has been stamped using a flat chisel and making three strikes to form the triangle. Here's a picture:

Without seeing your marking, there is a triangle stamping deemed to be an Iraqi property marking.

There is another triangle shaped marking which is an Indian military Inspection marking.

I'm sure that there are others...
