I am looking at a new 30-06 from Savage Arms but I can not get a handle on the models. The 110 is wood, the 111 is a 110 in plastic and the 114 is in wood again but now its 100 bucks more without the scope! Is the 114 a better gun or is it just a gussied up version of the 110?

The 114 has nicer wood and a nicer blued finish. They're the same basic rifle.

Model 10; tupperware stock, blued, short action.
Model 110; tupperware stock, blued, long action.
Model 11; plain wood stock, blued, short action.
Model 111; plain wood stock, blued, long action.

Model 116; tupperware stock, stainless, long action.
Model 14; nice wood w/black forened, gloss blued, short action.
Model 114; nice wood w/black forend, gloss blued, long action.

Here it is..

The number of numbers in the model indicate whether it is a short action or long action. 2 digits indicate short action, 3 digits is long action.

The letters all stand for something as well.

AK = adjustable muzzle brake
B = laminate stock
BT = laminated thumbhole stock
C = detachable box magazine
F = synthetic stock
G = hardwood stock
H = hinged floorplate
L = left hand
ML = muzzleloader
NS = no sights
P = police
SS = stainless steel
T = peep sights (rimfire)
V = long range (heavy barrel)
XP = package gun
Y = youth

So, a model 11 FCNS would be a short action with a synthetic stock, removable box magazine and no sights

A model 116 FLHSS would be a long action with synthetic stock, left hand, hinged floorplate magazine and stainless steel.

64 = semi-auto rimfire
93 = .22WMR bolt action
Mark II = .22LR bolt action
93R17 = .17HMR bolt action

There is nothing to indicate Accustock or Accutrigger.
