Folks

i am thinking of buying a savage f-class in 6br
i can't really afford a full custum br rifle so was thinking of starting with savage and get it tuned by a good smith

or do i just wait longer and get a custom?

tks Dan

I have heard extremely good things about these savages.

As for getting that or a full on custom rifle I would say that probably depends a lot on your experience/skill level and since you're asking the question theres probably a lot you can get from the savage before spending the money on a full on custom. I would start with the savage and make sure its something you want to persue for sure before spending the extra cash on the custom.

Very little to do to these guns, I own 3, 2 6.5x284s and one 6br.
I am shoting them now, but plan on rebarrel them as the barrels go on the 6.5s.

I bought mine for a great price, for the action and stocks, but these shoot right out of the box, and if you do a search have won F-class events all across the states.

I think there is a winning F-class savage at the borden range as well, but i will let the individual post his comments.

Its a do nothing, shoot rifle, load it with 30.0g of varget and 105s-107s in the same hole all day long, if 6.5s load 4831 sc or H4350 with 140-142s
I shoot .2s with mine and have shot my smallest group to date of .067

I want to see what these will do with shilen, or Kreiger Barrels and glass bedding next summer...

here are 2 of my 3

You won't be disappointed. I bought a 12F/TR in 308, liked it so much went out and bought a 12LRPV in 223 and just bought a 12F Class in 6.5-284. Everyone who tries my guns say wow what a trigger. I've actually increased the trigger pull so a new shooter doesn't have a misfire.
Put good glass on it like NightForce NXS 5.5-22X56 or NightForce BR 8-32X56.
This scope lets you see hits on steel at 1000 yards. Mine all wear weaver flat tactical base and Burris Signature Zee rings Xtra high with 20MOA inserts.
The 6.5-284 will have 40 MOA inserts. So I can reach out to 2000 yards.
The only problem is finding one in stock!!

You will not regret the Savage 6 BR for Bench rest shooting or F class. It has some advantages over the 6.5 and a few disadvantages.

I have shot mine at Borden to 1000 yards on the right days.

Go with the loads Jason suggested, that work is done allowing more trigger time for yourself.

Enjoy.

Guys

tks for the input that is what i wanted to hear
if i get the savage i can put better glass on it

yeah i saw that wolverine still as one well as of 3 days ago
but i found one in the usa for a good price but i never got a good from states so i am gun shy

Hi guys:

I’m real new to brench rest shooting, and my first swim in these waters will involve a 12F 6BR.

I live up in Sudbury and today, me and the wife drove all the way down to Orillia (Epps) to pick it up. I’m planning to kit it with a Bushnell 8X32 x 40 and I’m hoping to mount it to the gun on Tuesday.

The only disappointment is that the store didn’t have any 6MM Norma BR ammunition in stock. I don’t think that I’m going to be able to find any in Sudbury.

Epps is going to bring some in for me, but the wait is going to kill me!!

I’m also planning to get a set of Redmen dies to reload and that's going to be interesting as I've never loaded rifle ammo before, only pistol.

I’m real encouraged by all the positive comments and it seems to vindicate my own research.

this is the guy you need to talk to, I think he may stock 6br loaded ammo. and for sure he stocks the brass. you probably want to get reloading ASAP, because ammo isnt cheap.
if you get your order in tommorow I am sure you will have it in your hands by the end of the week.

have fun with the rifle, I have a similar unit I am building at the moment

Epps did have 6 BR by Remington last week but 1 of the guys that works there also is getting set up for the upcoming season and may have grabbed it.

The Norma factory load was Diamondback that they were stocking, moly coated and very expensive!

Try Peter at hirsch precision as redlaker suggests.

I have brass and bullets if you strike out, drop me a pm. I am south of you by 2 hours on 69.

checking with dennis at the shooters den I thought would be the obvious option as well.. if for no other reason than the entertainment value.. I wish I had a gun shop like that where I live

I thought dennis was hilarious.
I bought a bunch of bags of new winchester 300h&h brass the last time I was there, they had dusty old tags on them $24
