Hey all.... I was wondering about the savage remake of the stevens favorite. Was it only made a year or two? Is it hard to find? My first rifle was a .22 1915 stevens (which I still have although not working) I was thinking of finding one of these savage ones, but it seems they are rarer than finding a .22 1915. I also read that the finish is not that great either. Should I bother searching for one, or will it just let me down? Thanks...

The savage favourite replica was first made in the 70 s with a solid frame octagonal version and a half round/oct version plus a Joshua stevens comm version. It was then reintroduced again but this time with a takedown version as well like the originals but some of these guns had misaligned pins causing the gun to malfunction.I have one the Varner stevens made replica favourites and if you ever come across one snatch it up quick as they are top of the line

Saw a Savage 30 at a gunshow and paid the asking price of $175....it's a nice shooter. The Varner 'favourites' are scarce as hens teeth.....I remember when they initially came to the market, and there was a nice review of them in a gun magazine but I guess the demand wasn't enough to keep the company in business and unfortionately nobody else picked it up

There's a few 'favourites' around chambered in obsolete rimfire cartridges, but ammunition is rare and expensive

If you like that sort of rifle and come across one I'd suggest you snap it up if they are not asking the world for it. You're right, they don't seem to show up often at all.

If you are good at tinkering then any issues can be corrected. And the best part is that the new ones are made from better metal so you don't need to feed them SV or subsonic ammo to prevent ending up with the rear of the block hitting you in the eye.

I had a 100 year plus old husqvarna rolling block break a breech block when I fired regular .22short ammunition( what it chambered for) and had to have a new block made( wasn't worth it,but I liked the little rifle ) ...it should be fine with the new block but I just shoot subsonic ammunition now ,no point pushing it

I think the 'new'( 50 year old) savage 30 is safer,as said, modern steel
