I recently bought a Savage 10 FP (as noted in another thread). To keep it short the bore is screwed. When I returned it to the dealer I was told that I couldn't return it as it's a rifle and it can't be returned and must be delt with through Savage. I think this is bunk as the rifle should have been sold in a condition to perform it's intended purpose (precision shooting) and it was not. I wasn't looking for an argument though and I'm willing to go through warranty to keep on good terms with my local dealers.

Has anyone delt with Savage for warranty work? If the rifle is to be rebarreled does anyone know if given the right kind of persuasion (nice, angry, I'm a gunnutz, etc) would they put a tube on with a twist more to my liking (assuming I pay the difference of their costs)? Finally does anyone know what a persons rights are in a case like this? A quick look through the act left me unclear if the dealer has any responsibility in the condition of an item in regard to its ability to perform its intended use and therefore an obligation to refund/exchange.

Consumer rights vary from Province to Province. The Sale of Goods Act in Manitoba, makes dealers responsible for the goods being of quality. But what that actually amounts to in practice, not sure. First resort or last resort?

Savage will normally Replace the barrels.

and if you read some reviews or ask questions. most of the Savage Fclass rifles (especially those in 6.5 284 and 6mm br) the bores are crap. good for a couple hundred rounds then pooched. ask them for the number for the savage warranty place in canada. call them and ask them what to do.

its really not the stores fault savage cant cut rifleing in their target guns properly.

One of my shooting friends had a Savage F-Class rifle that would not shoot, and the throat was too long.

The rifle was not only replaced in its entirety, he had put the rifle in another stock, so they returned his custom stock and replaced the rifle, leaving him with a 'free' extra stock.

I would speak with Savage directly and deal with them directly. In my opinioon, from the anecdotes I've heard, they are excellent.

I hope they will let me pick it up as Savage Canada is on my way home from work. It's encouraging to hear they are good to customers. The last time I delt with a warranty I'm sure they were trying to give me a stroke/heart attack.

From the sounds of these stories, you'll get much better treatment from Savage, than from the store. Thankfully my Savage and Stevens haven't had any hitches, but I'm comforted to hear these experiences.

Your local dealer will have the Savage rep. on speed dial. He should have dealt with this, but was too lazy, or doesn't give a damn. Find another dealer. Mark

I'm not sure if the dealer was being unreasonable or not. If it was my shop I would have just swaped it and delt with Savage myself. They claim Savage does'nt want to do it this way. We'll see later today if that's true. I'll let you know in the end how it works out.

Savage do offer a good warranty and stand by it.

To all future firearms buyers check with the store what their warranty policy is. Few shops I buy from repair in house or ship it to the agents. With out mentioning names I know one company advertises on their web page they don't warranty new firearms and a couple shops near to me say sorry we dont deal with that.

Hope Savage sort your problem

I had an issue with the barrel on a NEW FVSS .22-250 and they replaced it with a more expensive BVSS with in a week and at no extra cost to me...Call head office

I have the contact info for the "director of customer service" he's the guy who got me a replacement gun........You have to be firm in your demand that sending a brand new rifle away is unacceptable!...

They had no 10FP in stock and they wanted to exchange the rifle for a new one. The solution was to swap for a 12 FVSS. It's pretty much the same rifle but in stainless. If all goes well I'll be at range tomorow.
