Jeebus - is that a wrench for a cannon??? It must be about 5 or 6 feet long...![]()
Why do you need such a heavy duty wrench?
My regular 1/4" has served me well for a couple of builds, it's removed factory nuts with no signs of wear.
I have the Wheeler wrench but I never used it, I'm still waiting for my barrel.
Start with that and see what happens. The barrel nut doesn't need 60+ ft/lbs of torque, so you shouldn't need a heavy wrench.
As long as the barrel is in a tight vice and will not rotate, your Wheeler will do the trick for the first removal, sometimes a little opposing rotational force is needed on the action also, an action wrench of course is ideal but even a hardwood dowel through the action is enough and won't marr anything.
I will make the barrel wrench myself but are you sure there is no risk to damage the receiver with the hardwood dowel?
