just wondering if anyone has a ETA and price. i assume most savage deals will be able to get the hands on them. i have a 2-7x33 Leupold VX 1 ready to go on a short action :D

Why are they MSRP'ing this rifle at 900$

My eyes don't spy a marketing success here. Most hardcore mountain-hunters won't touch a blued-wood firearm. Most folks buying a Savage hunting rifle ain't spending that kind of coin.
Looks like most of the weight savings was achieved by lopping the barrel to 20" and Dremeling some holes in the stock, another manufacturer uses their standard short action with a short barrel and calls it a lightweight...smoke and mirrors. ;)

I also enjoy the "claimed" weight of 5.5lbs throughout all the calibers offered. I'm curious to see one on the scale,as well as how the stock design dissipates the recoil that is always present on a high-powered rifle under 7lbs all in. I won't be selling my 84M's anytime soon.
Savage does alot of things right but this isn't one of them.

The walnut stock was choosen over synthetic due to cost of mouldings. They cheaped out and used the axis bottom platic trigger gaurd and mag altho I herd the axis mags held up well even in cold weather. I hate the look of the fluted bolt so much that I'd never own one. For me I'd save the $400 extra and carry the extra 1 1/2lbs of the 111 but that's just me
