Savage loose mag

Not sure if the gunsmithing forum would be more appropriate, but I thought I'd try here first.

In my Savage MkII 22, the mags fit really loose. I have a 5 rounder and a 10, and both mags rattle loosely and don't feed well because of it. I have to hit the bolt pretty hard to make them feed.

Anyone else have this problem and is there an easy fix?

if they were used mags, the flange that holds them in is worn and does not hold the mag up in place. if new perhaps try a bit of solder on the flange bottom and file gently til they fit and work. Also the lips may need some adjusting too.

The mags were both new, so definitely not worn out. I'll try that solder trick and see how it works. Thanks!

I would try bending the locking catch/mag release forward a bit, so that it puts more pressure on the mag while its seated.
