Bought a no.4 mk.1* and looking to replace the trigger guard assembly. Found one on ebay listed as a no.4 mark 1 trigger guard. Just wondering if this part would be compatible with my rifle seeing as how it is not originally from a no.4 mk.1 *.

I think it would work but I am not confident.

Take yours apart and compare yours to the picture. If it looks exactly the same it will work. You might have to remove some wood to make it fit though

I cannot remember all the little changes that took place. Between the mk I, mk1/2, mk I* and Mk II

Mk I made in UK throughout the war, and initially made in Canada and US by Savage
Mk I* made in Canada after they figured out how to make more rifles faster
Mk I/2 a Mk I with a block brazed to the front of the butt socket to "hang" the trigger on the receiver
Mk II a No.4 rifle made with the hung trigger from the outset
Mk I/3 a Mk I* converted to Mk I/2 style fittings

They didn't use roman numerals so it's Mk1, Mk1*, Mk2, Mk1/2, Mk1/3.

I don't recall ever seeing that, but I'll start looking out for it. The earliest No. 4 I have on hand is a Long Branch, 1942. The stamping is quite clear, No4MK1* .
