I took my new .22 out for a bit of shooting today. I fired around 200 rounds of federal white box and selliers and belliot before the weather got too gruesome.

The Good:
- The rifle shoots better than I do
- It handles like a "real" hunting rifle in terms of the bolt
- with it's weigh the practically non existent recoil of 22 lr is literally impossible to feel through winter clothes.
- the synthetic stock, as far as synthetic stocks go, is pretty good looking.
- a fun gun to shoot, would be good for teaching someone how to use a bolt, I'd take it over a cheap semi any day of the week.

The Bad:
- 10 rounds is the biggest magazine available, and the curve looks a little funny too me. They don't seem especially stable either
- this thing tosses brass like it was designed to.
- At one point I had a malfunction where a spent cartridge was stuck in the chamber, this was an S and B round. It knocked out easy enough with a cleaning rod.
- after this malfunction something went awry. I don't know if I had set off the safety on the accu-trigger because of my gloves or what. I ran a whole mag through, click after click, I think I was supposed to pull the bolt up without ejecting the round and push it back down. After this magazine of failure, with no markings on any of the ejected rounds, I removed the bolt and did a quick bore clean. After reattaching and reloading I had no more problems. I'm thinking it was the accu-trigger because I would hear a click but nothing would happen and there were no primer strikes.

Any other ideas from fellow owners who may have had this problem?

Over all, good rifle. I am going to take it out for some rabbits in the near future. Hopefully this magazine malfunction doesn't become a reoccurring problem.

How accurate are you talking when you say it 'shoots better than you do'?

Piling shots on top of each other? At what range?

Glad you're happy with the purchase

Sorry the rifle is a plain jane mark 2 f, synthetic stock and iron sights.

Yes I did read the instructions but I forgot about them in the heat of the moment, also I thought cycling the bolt would disengage the accutrigger safety. Nope. Gonna take it out again on friday and hopefully the weather will be agreeable and there will be no issues with the safety.

Skimmer I was shooting at 50 meters in howling wind at approx 1x2 pieces of hockey tape. I was shooting to the right, my guess is because of the adverse conditions but my groups were full of touching bullets and no flyers to speak of. Definitely holds minute of rabbit which is all I would ever need it to do. Also besides the adverse conditions affecting accuracy I was shooting off a rolled up foamy or off hand, like I said not exactly optimal conditions. I will bring some better equipment and targets with me next trip.

That's some good shooting out of a fairly inexpensive rifle!

Update us after you get back out there with the gun. If you can, a full-blown, comprehensive range report with pictures, diagrams, and maybe a short re-enactment using Lego dudes, would be very appreciated. I've been looking for a .22 that shoots above its price-point.

I have always been bad with uploading pictures from my phone to the internet (I guess I'm an old man at heart) but I will try my best for the next range report.

I would say, it cost me 220 bucks on sale, it shoots far better than I would expect from a 250 dollar rifle. This seems to be savages "thing" judging by the out of the box accuracy of the axis' every bubba I know owns.

You enjoy shooting it, you did not have to sell the farm to get it , it's accurate ...that's what it's all about.. congrats

Yep it's a winner, now all I need to do is convince boyds to make a non thumb hole laminate for it and find some 30 round magazines.

If you ever find bigger magazines, let me know. I'd love some for my mkII.

As for the trigger, if you pull on the side of the trigger without the center blade depressed the accutrigger will not go off, it'll click, and you'll have to re-#### the gun to reset it. Which means you should have been resetting it every time you cycled the bolt, as it cocks as soon as you open the bolt. I have no idea what your gun was doing though...

Strange, I'm not sure what caused that malfunction then.

Maybe the cold or the gunk from the SB ammo, but it was clicking and not shooting. Got it working again and hopefully it will not be a problem. The strange thing is that I reloaded the rounds that failed to fire and they all went bang eventually.

I can't seem to find anyone online who has had the same problem.
