I don't know if this has been posted before, couldn't find it.

Basically my Mark II is having failures to eject occasionally.

I have looked up methods to fix it, and have contacted Savage Arms already to send me a fresh extraction kit just in case. Out of all the strategies out there (double spring, new extraction, sharpening the extractor, deep cleaning), what method has worked best with you? Is there a permanent solution or will I have to constantly replace extractors for this rifle?

Thanks!

Some time in the last few months there was a thread on the Mk II with some suggestions on how to fix this. It wasn't about this problem specifically, but if you dig back you'll probably find the answer.

What vintage and model of Mark2 do you have? I have had a couple of FV-SR's and the only issue I ever had was CCI Blazer or SV in cold temps, but those also had issues in other rifles.

Mine is the model F in stainless. There are range days where it doesn't fail at all, on others it fails on ever other round. I switch ammo types, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't...

Double springs work well. I do that on all mine. Regular cleaning and keep the channels for the extractors clean. I take an airgun and shoot some air in, as they have vent holes on both. You can easily jab a pick in there as well.

I tried everything from new extractors, to custom filing them, to double springs ect.... and it was pointless, to the point I hated the gun.

I removed the barrel and machined the extraction/guide grooves deeper to match how my CZ 17 hmr and 10/22's all are. Then put plane jane not modified extractor guide and spring on... Never, and I mean NEVER to have a failure to extract the case again.

Savage messed up, the extractor groove was never machined to the proper depth on many of these. There is almost no rim exposed for the extractor to work with, hence all the issues.

Anyways, you wanted a permanent answer, that was how I dealt with it. It only takes a hour to do with basic hand tools and a small file that you modify to fit in the extractor groove.
