I have a Savage Mark II F and I would like to improve the sights over what they came with. A set-up similar to the FVT would be ideal. What have other done in this situation? The SAV200 Tech-sights are nice, but not sold in Canada. Does anyone have experience using Williams sights? If so, what model? Was any modification nessicary?

The FVT uses Williams sights, but the receiver is drilled and tapped on the left side for them. The stock also has some material removed to account for the rear sight mount.

Well dont do what i did. I have a Stevens 300F and due to the very short sighting distance they really aren't that effective past 25 yards.
I figured the perfect thing would be to get the Tech-sights to increase the sight distance. Since they aren't available here i figured i would come up with something on my own. I ordered a UTG weaver peep sight from amazon.ca for $40 and mounted it on the factory mount. Thinking it was low enough i went to the range to try it out. Shoots way too high so i installed a higher fiber optic front sight still way too high. The front sight needs to be about an inch high if not more for it to work. Money wasted on nothing but hey i guess you get a good tip out of it.
To me it looks like you would have the same problem with the Williams for the Savage. You will need a very high front sight.

If i were to do it again i would call savage and order the peep that goes on the Rascal. Get the receiver drilled and tapped by a gunsmith and be done with it. I have a Rascal as well and the peep is very low on the receiver and works with the original front sight.

As for the Stevens i have, i went back to the factory rear sight. It works great on the range within 25 yrds.

Glad I posted on here, great advice! It would be nice to put the Williams sights on, but it sounds like more work then I want to get into. It really sucks the Tech-sights aren't available here. Sounds like the rascal peeps would be the best option. I will have to see what I can do about getting a set. Thanks for the help, any other advice out there?

Called Savage Canada and they told me the rascal sight is to small for the mark II and won't work. Back to square one I guess!

Well the good news is after a little more work I was able to find a retailer that ships Tech-sights to Canada. I look forward to getting them. Should be a good set up for me to plink with and to teach my little ones to shoot.

Who, and how much? Currently I've got a 3-9x32 rimfire scope, but a peep could be fun too...

Hah, I had the exact same thought process, but didn't go through with it, thankfully!

That's funny, I did the same exact thing with a Savage Axis. Modified a set of Tech Sights in the machine shop and then found that the rear receiver and sight was waaay too high lol
It was a fun project tapping and drilling and modifying but alas she did not work. Nothing ventured nothing gained though!
I am also trying to source a set of the Tech Sights for my savage MKII in Canada. No damn love :(

With the exchange IMO thats a lot of money for a set of sights! For that price i think i would go with a See All sight instead.
For me im so bitter with the whole thing im just going to leave the damn thing as. Anyone interested in a UTG rear sight, only mounted once?

I wonder if the corresponding UTG barrel band front sight (listed as for the Mossberg 702 and Ruger 10/22) would put the front sight high enough to make that setup usable. (model number MNT-716)

Skinner Rimfire Sight: http://www.skinnersights.com/rimfire_groove_sights_25.html

Scroll halfway down the page. They mount with screws to the rear scope mount holes. Solid.

OR if you don't want to spend as much, you can use their Lo-Pro sight: http://www.skinnersights.com/lo-pro_sight_7.html
-file down the stem so it fits and doesn't bind the bolt. Probably better chance of working with your factory front sight. It was fine on my Ruger 10/22 and M98 Mauser.

They ship to Canada and are A1 in Quality and Customer Service.
