Savage Mark II TR owners

Am looking at getting my hands on a new 22. I have a savage Mark II BV now and it shoots very well on bench and off hand. Must admit the known ejection issue after 200 rnds gets to me. Not 100% sure if it's crud or a heated expanded barrel or both but like many others have experienced the empty cases get stuck and need to be coaxed out.

Just wondering

a) if any TR owners have had the same ejector issue?
b) despite weight, whether TR can also be good for standing off hand shooting as well as bench / prone?

I have a Mark II TR and I find the only time I have issues with cases failing to extract is if the bolt face under the extractor is very dirty; but I've managed to get reliable feeding and extraction well beyond 200 rounds. As for the rifle itself, I love it. Shoots sub MOA groups at 50m with middle of the road .22 ammo (as long as I do my part). Have shot it benched and prone easily with a squeeze bag. Haven't had much experience shooting it standing though so someone else will have to chime in.
 
I haven't experienced ejection issues except with certain types of ammo that wouldn't feed or chamber properly in the first place.

Mine shoots MOA with CCI Green Tag and Eley Standard.
 
That gun was my first ever and I like it alot. It was 6 months or so before they came out with the threaded barrel version (4-5 years ago). I've put over 5k through it and had the od ftf, fte etc but nothing I was going to cry about. Of the ammo I tried it like Winchester dynapoints best. The best quality ammo I tried was eley standard, shot pretty good.

It's a bit to heavy imo for prolonged off hand shooting.
 
I have the Savage..had some serious problems with ejecting but cleaning and polishing cleaned it up.

I have a much more serious problem with the mag..it "ejects" shells..as many as four at a time..even sitting on a bench. So..load 5, place mag in gun..and like a Skittles commercial 3-4 rounds eject thru the port powered by the mag spring pressure.

Was manageable by loading mag with bolt closed..but now the mag..held in hand..ejects shells as fast as you can load them.

Hope I am explaining this in a fashion that can be understood..really thinking should have gone with a bolt Ruger for magazine compatibility with the pile of 10/22 mags I have already.

Your mag is broken/worn out. The little tabs that press thru the side plates, are loose. They probably allow the top to wiggle slightly open. I have a mag that does this exact thing. Its loose by like 1/4 of a mm or less.

Less than 120 rnds fired. Leads me to believe, perhaps without fair reason, that followup magazines will share same problem. I have thousands of rounds fired in my 10/22 rotaries without a problem. Regardless, I will source and replace magazine for week old Savage.
 
Just held the mark II TRR SR at LeBarons. Very nice design, like the beaver tail butt, interesting stucco like finish, but the rail with side bar and threading make no sense to me for my purposes. Also surprised how stiff the bolt was - must loosen up a bit w oil. Overall though a nice rifle - I will likely get the TR. I can certainly shoot offhand w it as well - I'm used to 10lb 1885. The balance on the TR is nice.

after a brick of ammo or so the bolt on mine is butter smooth, i just need to get the trigger a bit lighter.

My bad mag has about the same number of rounds through it. I think its a manufacture process problem. they aren't welded or soldered together anywhere. Just press fit tab into slot. If your mags are like mine. I was actually going to just solder it back to shape myself. But then I picked up a couple different 10rnd mags and forgot about it.
 
Unless of course it's a Tikka or Sako. I'd like to see how smooth the Quad is out of the box.

My Mark II BV ended up a little smoother after a few hundred rounds but not as much as I would have liked. I sometimes wonder if smaller action requires a lighter oil - and of course used very sparingly.

I have the Savage TRR, cut the side rails off as I have no use for lasers or lights. Shoots Minute of rabbit at 100 yds and MOA at 50. The bolt smooths out after a brick or two. It is heavy, but that helps when standing, but deff not a hunting rifle. Most accurate .22 I have, only my BSA heavy comes close with peeps.
 
Have you considered a Mk II FV-SR in the TR stock? I gather the ex-tacticool stocks are now ready for shipping. And then there's this one from Midway metal...
