I have recently bought a Savage MK1 FVT from a very good CGN'er ( 2screwsloose ) it come with no sights. I have been looking for one for a while ( As I didn't want a MKII and NOBODY had a MK I ) to get into some entry small bore 3P shooting someday. 
Before spending some more money on sights and a stock I decided to see if it was a shooter. So I had mounted on a old tasco 3X maybe 4X? scope that was re-done by someone in Truro about 25 years ago for my father. There was EXTRA fine cross hairs installed and new glass. Just for .22 target shooting so my father told me when he had it done 25 years ago. I also installed the scope sideways....... ( Left = up & Up = left ) I must have been drinking or something... I didn't even realize until I tried to do adjustments at the range.
I tried to do the ammo testing as consistent as possible. Between each flavor of ammo I ran a patch with some Otis CLP down the barrel. And I sat for 5 minutes between shoots. The wind was pretty calm when I first started shooting. And picked up a little as the day progressed ( 15 - 20 KM/H )
The ammo that was available to me at the time Winchester Super X which i used for sighting. CCI Blazer 40 Gr, Federal Champion 40Gr, CCI Stinger 32Gr?, Federal value Pack 36Gr, Winchester T22 target 40Gr & CCI Standard Velocity 40Gr. Will show the results on the last picture.
The FVT itself I don't think it was ever shot. Everything looked unused/new.
If you can see in the picture how fine the cross hairs are, and how small the targets look even at 25 Yards. My eyes are not the best and kept loosing the damn thing. As well the orange squares were washed out by the sun a little as well
These were the first 6 shots I took with the Winchester Super X. Not to bad I thought. And it was the first time the scope was used in 25 years. If it wasn't for that 1 drifter it would have been hellish good.
These were the next 4 shots. The bottom one was the 1st and the top 3 after the adjustments. Again with the Winchester Super X
The set-up I was using was just some shooting bags and some regular sand bags from my local range. Not the greatest set up. But was comfortable.
Here is the groups of the different ammo's. I have to note that this is stuff I have had sitting around the house. Nothing is freshly bought and I know the Super X was at least 10 years old and the Bulk pack was 5 years old. The groups I will identify from left to right starting from the top. The center is a 1x1" square. ( I know the POI changes a little bit moving down to the next line but I don't think its any concern at 25 yards? )

Group 1 - CCI Blazer - 5 shots
Group 2 - Federal Champion - 5 shots
Group 3 - CCI Stingers - 6 shots
Group 4 - Federal Value Pack 5 shots

Group 1 - Winchester T22 - 5 shots
Group 2 - Winchester T22 ( I don't know what happened with the 1st group... ) 10 shots
Group 3 - CCI Standard velocity - 6 shots
Group 4 - CCI Standard velocity ( The wind was guesting hard for a few minutes and this is was its effects ) - 6 shots

Group 1 - Federal Champion 15 shots ( 2 drifters )
The biggest surprise to me was the Federal champion shooting just as good as the CCI SV. ( Maybe even better? )
The next surprise was the bizarre 2nd grouping of the T22. Which was shot right after the 1st group with no pause.? ( Any idea's?? )
The Fed Value pack I knew what not produce anything. As well I know the Stinger is a hunting round and is a Hyper velocity round.
I had set a target up at 50 yards. And also tested the same ammo. A mix of the low power scope and my eye balls wasn't a good show. The CCI SV was best at around 1'' everything else was outside that.
MY 1st impressions are high on this Canadian made 22. I am sure with a better scope. Better heavier target stock ALL match grade ammo. The groups would tighten up a lot!
My next outing should be better. I am going to swap the scope out with a bushnell 3X9 I have in the closet. And I will weight each round with a RCBS digital scale to make sure there is nothing way out of specs.
