Finally had a couple days to get this combo on the range. Tried CCI SV, Fed blue box, Fed Match. Quite impressed, but I’ve been off the range since Oct so a bit rusty. At 100yds all 3 give 10 rnd groups averaging right around 2 1/2”, sometimes just a bit better. I have to get the legal bags to start working with to prepare for outlaw rim fire type courses. I think, based on results with much heavier recoiling rifles that I can shoot a bit better than my present ammo lets me. How much better do I need to group not be limited by my gear/ammo? What range do most competitors zero for this? I will settle down and do some drills to see how close the dialing mils lines up with the target impact and get an idea of what my velocity is by matching the drop I see. Any tips from the folks that have done a bit of the style of rimfire shooting? I do a lot of offhand work because it’s harder for me than for the gear. Also breaks up the precise stuff a bit.

Looks like preliminary figuring says an average of 1058fps for CCI SV. I’ll keep shooting this for a while because I’ve got a few K of it.

I got the same set up as you, except mine as a nikon black 1000, the only thing i change was adding an adjustable cheek rest. It is my first savage and him impress by its accuracy for the price.

I’ve found the stock a bit low also. A cheek test is probably in my future. I would like a chassis and new trigger, but staying in the production class and saving some $$ is probably better.

Mine likes Center-X, shoots it @ 1018 spread 32 std dev 11.9 and I use a bc of 0.125 in the calculator. Shoots to steel at 330 yards with 16.5mil.

When shooting to test ammo never shoot off hand, only off of bags so that you can be completely consistent.

Oh, shooting for groups is always off a rest. Even shooting Center fire I can’t get close to 2 1/2 MOA@100 shooting offhand. I found some Eley local, so grabbed a box to try. Not sure what I’ll do if it works great.

Tesro. They have many testing packs.

From what I've heard, there aren't that many shooting production. Like, 1/4 of the competitors maybe?

This is what I was told when asking about lefty options that would keep me in production - there isn't much in the way of 22lr rifles in lefty formats other than base models with sporter weight barrels. (eg the Savage Mk II you can only get the F in a lefty, no heavy barrel options).

Savage FV-SR Action screw torque group results?

I know Savages says 15-17 in lbs. Anyone experimented? I found a few threads on other forums, but lots of “I changed out the stock” stuff; this rifle will stay in the production class though. I was able to find some Aguila, SK, and ELEY at Cabelas. I’ll try those with a bipod and rear bag and keep some records to reflect on later. I grabbed a slip in pad to extend the LOP and a lace on cheek rest so I should be a bit more consistent.

ELEY Club was the best today. Several 10 rnd groups under 2”@100yds. The horizontal spread for several different ammo types was 1 1/4” or so. The vertical spread was worse. Not sure how much better I should expect a bone stock Mk2 to shoot 10rnd groups @100yds.

A few groups from 50 yds today.Kind of breezy. Fed Blue box shot as good as ELEY Club. Wife and boy burned most the ammo, a good day. Several groups 3/4” or less@50yds. Not ready for the challenge thread though. Now I’m not to unhappy with my $330 Savage compared to the rifles that own the 1/2” challenge thread.
