Whats everyones opinions on a MKII BV that would be used for 50yd and some 100yd bench shooting and maybe some prone shooting? Seriously considering one of these at the moment so I would like some pros and cons.

Thanks

I have an FV and it is a good shooter. It likes Wolf Match ammo for longer distances and shoots CCI CB short target nicely for up close and quiet plinking.

I've found the Wolf and CCI drop almost identical at the different ranges so I don't need to make any great scope adjustments.

I think you will be happy with one. Just buy good ammo and you will see good performance.

There are probably dozens of threads on this gun, but to save you some time here's my summary:

Pros

- Very accurate
- Good trigger, probably the best of all the standard .22s
- Solidly built
- Comes with Weaver-type scope bases already mounted
- Good looking (though beauty is in the eye of the beholder)

Cons

- Heavy (good for target work, less so for a field gun)
- Some owners have had extraction problems. Solution is usually to keep the extractor recesses along the side of the chamber clean.
- Bolt may require an extra lift straight up to ####. Solution is usually to increase the trigger pull weight slightly using the tool provided.

Other Considerations

- The scope bases are mounted fairly far forward. Make sure your scope has enough eye relief if this is a problem.
- Some of them have a small dent somewhere on the stock. This is probably a quality control or shipping issue for whoever makes the stocks for Savage. If you buy it in a gun store look for that.
- Sometimes the magazines are defective, causing the cartridges to spring out. If you get one of these call Savage and they'll replace it for free.

I've owned a BV for almost three years now and have put thousands of rounds through it. It's a very satisfactory rifle. It will take any ammunition, but my current fave is Federal Champion Target. For 100 yds or further I'd use SK+ or Eley Sport.

Pretty much what you should know.
