Hey everyone, I just ordered a Savage MK II BV .22LR rifle. It looks like a really nice rig.

Does anyone have any comments on this rifle?

Welcome to gunnutz! You won't be disappointed with your new savage, the are VERY accurate guns. I've had a couple and regret ever selling them. I'm actually in the market for another one right now. Very nice guns for the money, and I've even read about them placing very high in competitions against guns that cost much more.

IMO, Best Bolt .22 in its price class in terms of accuracy, or even in the next higher price class.

My MKIIF shoots almost equal or equal to (most days) my CZ Varmint. The bull barreled model is a tad better than the MKIIF as proven by my buddies FV.

I feel that after I install the Yodave trigger kit in my Varmint, it should be equal to the Savage bull barrel MKIIs.

Very accurate. Excellent gun for the money. Here are a few things you might watch out for:

1. For some reason a lot of them come with a little dent somewhere on the stock. Poor QC by whoever makes the stock I suppose. No effect on function.

2. You may find that occasionally the trigger locks up when the gun is cocked. The immediate fix is to lift the bolt handle up then pull it down again. That will release the trigger and you can fire it. When you get home, take the action out of the stock and set the trigger weight a little heavier, using the tool provided. This usually resolves the problem.

3. Some of them have ejection problems. Changing ammunition usually solves that problem. If not, and it's still under warranty, return it to Savage (or their local agent) for service.

4. The scope bases are mounted fairly far forward. If the scope has a shortish tube (i.e. limited mounting room) you may not be able to get the eyepiece as close as you would like. Solution is to use a scope that has more length between the turret and the two lens bells or has longer eye relief. This is something to consider before you buy a scope for it.

That's what I learned from owning two of them for several years.

Thanks guys, I was fairly certain after looking that I made the right call. Just needed to hear it from another person.

I bought it from a shop in Ontario who does all of the Savage warranty repair work, good guy who knows a pile about it.

I have a mkiiF, what is the easiest way to mount a scope on it? Thx.

It took about 200 rounds to smooth out my brand-new savage, after that, it is broken-in and hitting shot gun shells 25 yards out all day long. :)

Here is the best results from todays initial ammo tests!

This is 5 rounds at 50m. Savage MarkII FV with a Bushnell Trophy 4-12 x 40mm, off of a bipod, and rear bag:

There was a few like this but with flyers, which were probably me.

Ill put up a review and more details later, but this is the best group of the day, and was with CCI Standard Velocity.

This model does not include the scope mounts. I would suggest contact Savage directly on their parts line and order the mounts directly. You will find their part prices to be more than fair. You will need your serial number to order. Oh, and have your credit card handy.

Savage MkII

I have the pre-accutrigger, synthetic stock Savage MkII with the heavy barrel. Topped with a Tasco 2.5-10x42mmAO scope. A real tack driver.
