When it comes to scopes, the position of factory rails on the Savage MK II doesn't allow a whole lot of variety. Has anybody replaced them with a Weaver or other type of 20mm rail? I don't mind drilling holes on the new rail but not on the rifle. What works best on this action?

Check out EGW or DIP options.

I've lived your question.....

Egw and Weaver make dual and one piece bases but my problem with the mark ii is trying to get the scope mounted far enough back to see through it clearly. I presume due to the height of the bolt handle throw The base can't go back any further. So what I use are weaver two-piece bases and mount a set of Weaver extended scope rings. They provide a nice sturdy mount and the eye relief I need.

Thank you, gentlemen. I just bought an EGW mount on eBay. The scope I want to put on the rifle is quite compact (UTG 3-9x32 CQB Bug Buster). I have to move it way back and the rings simply don't fit the factory mounts. Problem solved with the EGW. Thanks again.
