Savage MK II - is the TR worth the extra $$$?

I want to start a rimfire bolt project to mimic my full bore rem 700. I was really liking the savage mk ii FSS, which runs about $260 new and has the heavy stainless varmint barrel.

On my last trip to my local gun shop, I was able to handle the mk ii TR. Sure it is nice, but I'm questioning if it's really worth the $460 list price for what seems to be a nicer stock and a "tactial" bolt handle.

Any thoughts? Are there any other "advantages" to the TR that I'm missing? Thanks!

Savage Mark II TR

I really like my TR. I'm sure it shoots just as good as any other of Savage's target 22's. I'm really happy with the "tacticool" look for under $500. I suppose is mostly a matter of "looks" and how much you are willing pay and/or budgeted for. I think for the differences: oversized bolt handle, McMillan style stock and fluted barrel, are worth it. People have mistaken mine for a big bore rifle and i have to tell them it's "Just a .22". I put a Tasco Varmint 2.5-10 X42 (the one with the mildots) with burris high rings on mine. anyway, good luck with whichever you choose.

cheers

Yes, its worth the extra dollars. The stock fits well, with Lapua club standard, 5 shot groups at 50 meters are impressive.3/4"- 1" at 100 meters. 10 round mags are cheap at $28.

I like the TR as well....but I went with a 93FV in 22wmr and added a Boyds tacticool stock, new bottom metal and trigger guard .It works out to be about the same amount of money.
The stock I received from Boyds is a big improvement.
Scope is a Bushnell elite 3200 3x9x40

Another option is if you really like the FSS get it and put a Boyds stock on it..it is the same as the TR has.
I believe Savage gets them from Boyds if I am not mistaken .The trigger guard, bottom plate and extra mags can be ordered fron Savage. When I ordered mine it took 11 days for it all to arrive.

its pretty hit or miss right now, savage came out with a bunch of new models and never anticipated the market response they would get, they have been playing catch up since, i waited 10 months for my 110BA and its coming up on 6months for my modle 12 lrpv, i just happened to luck out and walk in my local shop as the were literally putting it on the shelf.

Nuts.
Oh well I'll keep my order and keep searching.
Thank you
