I found this neat little adapter over on the Rimfire Central Forum.

His photos!

It is inserted in place of the magazine & a single cartridge placed like so...

I think it has it's place for training or for those reasons you may want to shoot your gun as in single shot mode. Might even keep one around in case I loose or misplace the original magazine(s).
There is a fellow in Arizona that makes them for $20. USD.
No dog in this hunt,....just thought I would share this neat adapter with you...:dancingbanana:

Not a bad idea at all, and a good price. Does the rear of the cartridge sit low enough to slip under the extractors when pushed forward or do the extractors snap over?

Good question,....I don't know! I just bought my Mk-II & haven't tried it out yet. I never read anything negative about them, so I'm assuming it works okey.....
My guess by looking at the photo, is the extractor snaps over the cartridge rim after it is pushed into the chamber....

I will report back when I recieve my adapter & try it out!

Better place for me to ask this:

I'm confused, why do you need an adapter to make it single shot?
Why not just keep the empty magazine in the rifle and load it by hand.

I need to get a mrk2

Your question is one I had also, when I first learned of this adapter.
I will try using these photos to explain.....

If you look at the plastic follower in the magazine, it sticks up above the magazine body. When placing a single cartridge on the follower, it rolls off to one side or the other, depending on which way the gun is canted.

The cartridge is to long to get it under the feed lips of the magazine while it is in the gun & would be an exersize in frustration for most folks like me with big thumbs & fingers in such a restricted space.....

Trying to feed directly into the chamber WITHOUT the magazine in place with all thumbs again, is all but impossible & one will be picking up their ammo off the ground!

If you go back to the photo at the start of the thread, notice the narrow channel milled into the top of the adaptor where the cartridge is supported on either side, like a boat on a trailer. It now is directly in line with the chamber & the bolt behind it.....

May I add that it should make the Mk-II capable of chambering & firing the .22 SHORT rimfire cartridge as well, which adds to the versatility of these rifles.

I hope this answers your question & I think it's a nice little accessory for the Mk-II Savage/Lakefield Rifle.
